Examples of Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a discipline that starts from microbiology. It covers several areas in which biology, chemistry, among others, are used together in order to obtain a product that is generally human-oriented.
It is used in many industries such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medicine, forestry and food sciences among many other areas.
The origin of biotechnology dates back to approximately 4 thousand years ago when it came to improving the wine production process; many times biotechnology methods were applied but without realizing it. However, with the passage of time and the advancement of technology it has been possible to improve and create new methods for the manufacture of products.
To fully understand what biotechnology is, you must have knowledge about microbiological processes which are based on the use of bacteria that, unlike what is usually thought, is not always related to the cause of diseases since there are bacteria that they are very beneficial for the human being and that allow the realization of many processes. Such is the case of the intestinal flora, the production of foods such as yogurt, the development of vaccines and medicines.
Biotechnology can be classified into the following types:
- Red biotechnology: Applicable in medicine.
- White: it is applied in the creation of new foods.
- Green biotechnology: applicable in agriculture.
- Blue: it is related to aquaculture.
