Types of salts
Salts are classified according to the atoms that make up their molecule in binary and oxysal salts.
- The binary salts are those which are only formed by two elements, which are a metal and a nonmetal. They are more abundant in sea water. For example, sodium chloride (NaCl).
- The oxysalts are those carrying the metal as cation and an anion consisting of a non – metal and one or more oxygen atoms. For example, sodium sulfate Na 2 SO 4 .
