Java is the object-oriented programming language developed almost two decades ago but in 2013 rumors began that it would be outdated or even extinct, favoring other more “fun” languages ​​such as Python. What has finally happened?

According to the monthly Tiobe survey -which is the reference index of popularity of programming languages ​​and their evolution over time- in the month of August 2015, Java has risen positions and rises as the winner in the Tiobe ranking of the most used programming languages ​​in the world, while Python, for example, still rising positions, remains in fifth position.

As you can see, despite the fact that in 2013 there was a kind of plot to get rid of Java, this programming language is not only maintained, but even exceeding expectations, it has established itself as the most used today by developers. What has happened so far and why is it still worth doing a java course ?

1. It is true that Google and Firefox began blocking Java in 2013, but against all odds, it has been easier for many companies to change browsers than habits. It must be taken into account that complements such as the digital signature of online pages commonly used at a business level, such as the Treasury or Social Security, use Java. Alternative browsers that began to support Java without restriction were,  among other options, Opera, Sea Monkey (evolution of the old Mozzilla) and Maxthon, which became the first cloud-based browser powered by a dual-core engine. In any case, after these first problems, Google decided to allow Java to be unblocked and leave it to the user’s discretion to run it in Chrome  to continue using it.
2. Despite the fact that the Java language was previously criticized because it was said to be slow in web applications, the truth is that it is currently standing out in this field and it is even said that Java is much faster in servers than many other languages. It was also rumored in the technological sectors that Java was going to stand out more and more within the web environment, as indeed it has been over time.
3. In reference to development, the fact of being able to code on platforms such as Netbeans or Eclipse has greatly favored Java. And it is that there is no such thing as a good IDE that facilitates rapid and fluid code development, and the popularity of these two environments grew spectacularly from 2014.
4. Android is in fashion. Being able to design your own applications and being able to sell them online is quite a temptation. But this requires a background in object-oriented programming , so the most sensible step to get started on Android is to take a Java course.
5. There are still a lot of open source libraries available to developers that save a lot of work.
6. It has a passionate online community that supports it. Many developers are in favor of the power and flexibility of this programming language, and its extensive online community is proof of this.
