Common computer software failures

The most common software failures are caused by viruses and spyware. The computer is slow, the Internet is not working properly. The other common cause of software problems is when updating or installing a new driver or Windows update.

Common software failures

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD)
The Blue Screen of Death (BSoD or STOP Error) may seem like one of the scariest computer problems you’ll ever encounter. However, all the computer needs is for you to restart it. This STOP error appears on the screen for various reasons: faulty hardware, corrupted software, corrupted DLL files, driver issues, and more. The remedy for a blue screen depends on the original problem. The screen provides codes that can help you identify and fix computer problems.

Missing DLL
file Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files hold operating system information, such as performing certain functions. Occasionally the computer loses DLL files or something corrupts them. When the PC cannot read a particular DLL file, it does not know how to respond in certain situations. You may have a missing or corrupted DLL file if you get an error message every time it performs a certain function, such as saving. If your computer problems stem from corrupt and missing DLL files, you can restore them by downloading them back to your PC.

Applications that won’t install
If you’re having trouble with an application that won’t install, your computer may not have enough hard drive space. If this is the case, you need to free up some space on your hard drive by getting rid of files and folders you don’t need. These can be temporary files, duplicate files, or data from software that you have uninstalled.

Applications running slowly
There are several reasons why software may be running at snail’s pace. You may be having problems with your computer that involve the operating system or an application. If the operating system is missing updates or the computer does not have enough disk space, you can scan, clean and optimize the hard drive.

Abnormal Application Behavior
These are computer problems involving applications acting strangely. If the app has been working fine, but now, seemingly for no reason, is doing something strange, you may need to restart your computer. You can also do an internet search for the type of problem you’re experiencing.
