At present, the uses of green methanol are very varied and this chemical product could even ally itself with the most innovative renewable energies; ensuring that in the years to come, a Europe free from decarbonization is achieved, seeking to reduce the greenhouse effect, benefiting the planet considerably . According to the report of the International Renewable Energy Agency, it is possible that the industrial sector, as well as the transport sector, will expand and enrich.
Likewise, the aim is to achieve an economy that is free from emissions and the decarbonization process in the future – despite the obstacles . To date, the main objective is to obtain green methanol, whose production sources are fully renewable and derived exclusively from green routes. The most viable ways to obtain green methanol
Achieving the most effective routes to produce green methanol is possible, either through specialized plants and sustainable processes; as well as by the combination with green hydrogen, by means of highly advanced technologies –by qualified professionals– . For these reasons, these processes are quite expensive, requiring a capture plant whose cost exceeds that of a conventional methanol plant.
Despite this, pilot projects continue to be presented to combat decarbonization through the use of methanol ; as is the case with plants that seek to generate a ton of this compound per day, through foreign financing. The most advanced pilot project is called MefCO2, and it demonstrated the economic viability of manufacturing methanol combined with green hydrogen , financed by European companies; whose plant is located in Germany and was later replicated in Sweden, under the name of FReSME. But in this case, methanol is obtained from a series of gases, to which green hydrogen is added.
Likewise, within these pilot projects, the Spanish company Forestal del Atlántico also expressed its interest in the manufacture of green methanol. As other prominent European companies, they hope to join these programs, where the main objective is to produce green methanol to combat decarbonization.
Uses of green methanol will increase in the future
Thanks to the efforts and the pilot plans that seek to generate tons of green methanol to stop decarbonization, there is a growing interest; This is due to the versatility and uses that this compound brings to the petrochemical industry . That is why electricity costs are expected to fall, so that the demand for green methanol grows.

According to the statements of Jorge Dahl, DNV GL Business Development Manager, this fuel will not only stop decarbonization; rather, it will satisfy the demand of heavy transport (trains and ships) , highlighting its versatility in propulsion engines.
For all these reasons, it is thought that it will be the fuel of the future, halting decarbonization ; and all this thanks to the implementation of the various pilot projects, which bring together various technological techniques for their achievement.
